CLSA – Chattanooga Legal Professionals (formerly Chattanooga Legal Secretaries Association) was formed and chartered in December 1957.
CLSA is part of a tri-level professional association comprised of TALS – Legal Professionals of Tennessee, and NALS … the association for legal professionals.
CLSA is a non-partisan, non-union, non-sectarian, and non-profit organization based on the principles of service to its members, to attorneys, to courts, and to the general public.
MISSION STATEMENT
We are committed to deliver quality legal service through
continued education and increased professionalism,
promote and recognize a high standard for members
through the certification program, and provide networking
and personal growth opportunities for our members.
PURPOSE
To unite into a local and national organization all persons employed in work of a legal nature, enabling ideas to be exchanged, knowledge to be increased, and to develop friendships with others sharing an interest in the legal field.
To create and maintain high standards of loyalty, expertise, and ethics in the legal profession.
To stimulate an interest in professionalism, integrity, and the advancement of education by its members.
To cooperate with and assist attorneys, judges, bar associations and their affiliates.
To keep members informed of new developments in legal procedures.
CODE OF ETHICS
Members of NALS . . . the association of legal professionals are bound by the objectives of this Association and the standards of conduct required of the legal profession.
Every member shall:
Encourage respect for the law and the administration of justice;
- Observe rules governing privileged communications and confidential information;
- Promote and exemplify high standards of loyalty, cooperation, and courtesy;
- Perform all duties of the profession with integrity and competence; and
- Pursue a high order of professional attainment.

LEGAL EDUCATION through seminars and workshops held on local, state, and national levels. Speakers at monthly meetings keep members abreast of any new developments in law and court procedures.
CONTACTS with persons experienced in specialized lines of legal work and procedures.
DEVELOPMENT of leadership roles.

OPPORTUNITY
to develop friendships and improve communications with legal support staff and attorneys throughout the city, community, county, state, and nation.

MEMBERSHIP
Membership is open to any person employed in the legal field, whether in the public or private sector, courts, trust departments of banks or trust companies, or in a corporate legal department.
CLSA’s effectiveness in serving the legal community is dependent upon its continued growth through the addition of qualified, professional members. CLSA needs and welcomes new members.

assistant duties, or partial waiver with paralegal certificate or degree

MONTHLY MEETINGS
Monthly membership meetings of CLSA are held on the second Thursday of each month. Meetings are held either at noon at the offices of Miller & Martin or at 5:30 p.m., usually at the offices of Baker, Donelson, Bearman, Caldwell & Berkowitz. The 5:30 p.m. meeting place is subject to change for special occasions. Each meeting includes a speaker on legal education or another topic of interest to members and a business meeting.
